Validating the Behavioral Defining Issues Test across Different Genders, Political and Religious Affiliations

Abstract The Defining Issues Test (DIT) has been widely used in psychological experiments to assess one’s developmental level of moral reasoning terms postconventional reasoning. However, there have concerns regarding whether the tool is biased across people with different genders and political religious views. To address limitations, present study, I tested validity brief version test, that is, behavioral DIT, measurement invariance differential item functioning (DIF). could not find any significant non-invariance at test or demonstrating practically DIF level. findings indicate neither nor its items showed a bias toward particular group. As result, collected evidence supports use scores groups, enabling researchers who intend examine participants’ development heterogeneous groups draw conclusions based on scores.
